As our long term care sector and the public are very much aware, these past weeks have been very concerning and challenging times for our sector. We are very pleased with Premier Tim Houston’s announcement yesterday on behalf of the Government of Nova Scotia regarding retracting the previously announced cuts to long term care.
We extend our gratitude to them for listening and adapting. NHNSA appreciates the government and DSLTC for their reconsideration of these cuts. It takes bravery in politics to stand in the public and reconsider your decision and for that NHNSA is grateful. NHNSA is also extending our deep appreciation and admiration to our members, partners and colleagues for the sector-wide team effort with many of them contacting MLAs, media, suppliers and other supporters. A big thank you to all of our members for their strong leadership and collaboration during this difficult time. Thank you also go HANS and CCANS for their work and collaboration. N
HNSA was proud to be actively advocating on behalf of the nursing homes across Nova Scotia, their organizations, staff, residents, and families. We will also continue to work diligently, collaboratively and solution focused with the DSLTC team in the days and months ahead. The world of long-term care has become increasingly complex. Those leading and working in long term care are characterized by leadership, skills, innovation, dedication, compassion, and resilience.
Our sector is united with powerful collective goals to provide not only high standards of excellence in direct care but unwavering dignity and a fulfilling quality of life for ourresidents and an inspiring workplace for our teams. It is a privilege to represent our members and to work on behalf of this incredible sector and those we serve. There is much work yet to be done but today is a good day.
Sincerely,
Menna MacIsaac, Executive Director, NHNSA Krista Beeler, Board Chair, NHNSA Canadian Association
