LONG TERM CARE day
LTC Proud Day- why this special day
June 13 is #LTCProud Day in Nova Scotia. We join our sector and communities across the country in recognizing National Long-Term Care Day in Canada. This year’s theme, Caring Across Canada, reflects the shared compassion, commitment, and dedication that connects long-term care communities from coast to coast to coast.
This special day is an opportunity to pause and celebrate those who have chosen long-term care as their career and calling. It is a time to recognize the extraordinary people working in nursing homes and long-term care communities who provide comfort, dignity, companionship, expertise, and care to residents every single day. LTC Proud Day shines a light on the meaningful relationships, moments of joy, acts of kindness, and deep human connections that define this sector.
Across Nova Scotia and throughout Canada, those leading and working in long-term care continue to demonstrate remarkable resilience, compassion, innovation, and strength. In recent years, the sector has navigated unprecedented challenges including a global pandemic, hurricanes, wildfires, floods, evacuations, severe winter storms, staffing shortages, and increasing demands on care systems.
Despite these pressures, long-term care teams continue to show up every day with unwavering commitment to residents and families. Their expertise, vigilance, and heartfelt dedication ensure that residents receive the best possible care in the place they call home. We are deeply grateful to every staff member, leader, volunteer, caregiver, and partner who contributes to the strength of this essential sector.
This year’s theme, Caring Across Canada, also recognizes the collective effort taking place nationwide to strengthen and reimagine long-term care for the future. Through collaboration, investment, advocacy, and strong partnerships with governments, communities, and the private sector, meaningful progress continues to move forward. Together, we are building a stronger, more compassionate, and more sustainable future for long-term care in Canada.
On June 13, we proudly celebrate the people at the heart of long-term care — the caregivers, support staff, leaders, residents, families, and communities who make long-term care a place of compassion, dignity, and belonging.
